カレンダーやタオル、うちわなどにオリジナルの名入れが可能なサービスを提供なさっている株式会社レスタス様のオフィスである。
従来のサービスであれば発注者の手間や時間を沢山要したこのサービスをレスタスは無駄なタスクを省くためIT化し、
よりスマートにサービスが提供できる技術を構築した。

私たちはこの会社のオフィスをデザインするにあたり、レスタスのタスクを省くという理念から着想し、
そこにあるはずのオフィスとしての機能が必要時のみスマートに使用できるような存在にならないかをテーマとした。
機能を建築にプラスしていくのではなく機能を建築化し、その存在自体が機能としても建築としてもなくてはならない存在にできないかを考察した。

例えば建具は場所と場所を間仕切り繋ぐための大切な要素であり機能である。
しかしながらその為には機能を満たすためにハンドルや丁番、枠など沢山の建具を構成するために必要な要素が付随されてしまう。
私たちはこの一つの機能を成立させるための各要素を機能を満たしながら消すために建築化した。
この時の建具は建築の壁であり建具である両方を果たし、ともになくてはならない存在となる。
このような機能を建築化するためのディテールを徹底することでレスタスという会社の理念とリンクし、
よりスマートでレスタスらしいサービスを体現できるオフィスとなった。

機能を建築化するという行為は情報過多な現代において、本当に必要な情報を取捨選択し、
それらをプラスしていくのではなく実体として取り込み、ある情報の集積が建築の姿として建ち現れることであり、
その姿にこそとても純化された美しさがあるのではないかと考える。

“An office that turns functions into architecture”

This is the office of Lestas Inc., a company which produces calendars, towels, fans and other products with custom naming.
Lestas digitized their previous services, which required a lot of time and effort by their clients, in order to cut down on unnecessary tasks, and built technology that can offer smarter services.

In designing this office, we wanted to cut down Lestas’ tasks, and so adopted a theme of an office where necessary functions are smart by only being in their place and able to be used when required.
We thought to not simply add functions to the architecture, but turn the functions into the architecture, and in that state of being, see if they can play their indispensable roles as both functional and architectural elements.

For example, door fixtures are important elements for connecting and partitioning different areas, and can be considered functions. However, because they consist of many other fixtures such as door knobs, hinges, and frames that help realize that function, they also involve other necessary elements.
We have turned these different elements for realizing a single function into architecture so that they disappear while still fulfilling their function.
In this state, the fixtures fulfil both the roles of an architectural wall and a fixture, and are also indispensable elements.
By being thorough in the work of turning these functions into architecture, the office has come to link to Lestas’ corporate philosophy and more smartly embody the services they offer.

In this day and age of information overload, turning functions into architecture means selecting the information that is actually necessary, and instead of simply adding it, taking it in as its own entity and having the collection of information manifest into the architectural form. We think that it’s within this form that lies an exceedingly pure beauty.
