「一緒に学ぶ場所」

薬剤師国家資格予備校RECの改修プロジェクトである。
生徒の快適性強化と、同業他社との差別化を目的に今回の改修プロジェクトが始まった。

私たちは改修前は曖昧だった学びと休憩の場を明快に分けゾーニングし、学びに集中できる快適な場所とすると共にRECらしい学びの場が何かを思考した。
それを実現することが同業他社との差別化になり、生徒がRECを選ぶ理由になると考えたためである。

RECのパーパスは「教育で幸せに」である。
これは資格取得のための学び以外にRECでの学びの時間が今後の人生において大切な時間にしたいという強い想いが込められていると感じた。
合格率や講師の数など数字をもって生徒数確保を目指す同業他社とは異なり、人同士のつながりを大切にし温かい学びの場をRECからのヒアリングでイメージができた。

私たちはこの場所のコンセプトを「一緒に学ぶ場所」とした。
通常は講師は講師室に滞在し、生徒からの要望に応じて面談室などで対応を行う。
今回私たちが提案した場所は講師室を生徒に開放し、生徒と講師の距離がとても近い場所である。
授業の始まり・終わり、少しした休憩の時、いつも生徒と講師が顔をあわせ声をかけることのしやすい環境。
そのシンボルとして楕円形の大きなカウンターと生徒と講師を包み込む大きな円形サークルを設けた。
このカウンターを囲みながら気軽に相談をすることができたり、時にはプライベートな悩み事相談があってもよい。
カジュアルに会話を重ねることで生徒と講師の距離がどんどん近くなり一緒に学んでいる感覚が強くなれば、よりRECらしい場所となり「一緒に学ぶ場所」となると考えた。

“A Place Where People Learn Together”
 
We handled the renovation of REC, a preparatory school for people studying for national certification as pharmacists.[CK1] [CK2] 
The renovation project’s key aims were to make REC even more comfortable for students while differentiating it from competitors.
 
We thought about how to separate the study areas and rest areas, whose lines were blurred before the renovation, into clearly defined zones, how to create a comfortable environment where students could concentrate, and what kind of learning space would be the right fit for REC.
We believed that doing so would differentiate REC from competing schools and become another reason for students to choose REC.
 
REC’s purpose is “Achieving Happiness through Education.”
In this purpose, we could feel REC’s strong conviction that the time students spent studying at REC was not just time spent in service of gaining a certification, but was also a valuable part of students’ lives.
Unlike competitors, who prominently display test passing rates and instructor numbers in order to attract new students, our interviews with REC painted a picture of a warm study space which placed great value on the connections between people.
 
Our concept for this space was “A Place Where People Learn Together.”
In most preparatory schools, instructors stay in the faculty room and use consultation rooms or the like when called on by students.
Our proposed design opened the faculty room to students, narrowing the distance between instructors and students.
We created an environment where students and instructors could always see and talk to each other, whether it be before class, after class, or during breaks.
To symbolize this, we designed a large, oval-shaped counter and a large ring that would circle the students and instructors.
They could gather around the counter for casual discussions, or even to consult about private issues.[CK3] 
We believed that if these chats helped gradually bridge the gap between students and instructors, it would create a sense of mutual learning and enable REC to realize its vision of being a place where people learn together.
