Concept

公園へ解放し関係するホテル

公園に隣接するホテルのあり方について模索したプロジェクトである。

計画場所である天王寺公園はあまり開けた公園ではなく、そのためホテルも公園との関係に消極的姿勢であった。
しかしこの敷地周辺は、数年前に再開発され、明るく、人が沢山集い行き来する環境に生まれ変わり、私たちは新しくなったこの地域で、ホテルのあり方と観光都市大阪の現在と今後を見据えたリノベーション計画を進めることとなった。

私たちは元々ホテルが公園に対してクローズであった関係性を、より積極的に外部に対してオープンにし、宿泊客だけではなく公園を集い行き来する人たちも楽しめる場所にすることを提案したいと考えた。
ホテルが公園に溶け込み、公のパブリックスペースである公園と同じようにホテルを利用してもらうイメージである。
そうすることでメインターゲットである若い世代の方々がホテルに居ながらも大阪の人と交わり、人を通しての大阪の良さを感じていただけるのではないかと考えた。

ホテルの顔であるフロントはカフェカウンターのようにデザインし、実際にコーヒーや焼き菓子の提供が行われるカジュアルな場所として計画した。
この場所の開口部は折れ戸により公園へ向けて全面開放され、行き来する人々や付近にお住いの方の憩いの場となることを意図した。

ホテルのあり方は変化していっていると感じる。
もちろんそれぞれに特化した役割を持ちながらそれらは存在するわけだが、特別でプライベートな場所だったホテルはどんどん街に開かれ、人々に解放されていっている。
同時に求められる宿泊体験も変化し、プライベート感のある従来の体験から、街を楽しみ・人々との交流を楽しむような社交的な体験が今までにホテルに求められていなかったコトとして求められている。
3 O’clockはこの変化をどのように計画に落とし込んでいくかを考えるきっかけとなったプロジェクトである。

“A hotel opened onto its connecting park”

This project explores the way a hotel can be when it adjoins onto a park.

Tennoji Park, the location for this work, has previously been a closed-off park, indifferent to the existence of the adjoined hotel of this project.
However, several years ago this site’s surrounding area was redeveloped and in turn reborn as a brighter environment with a greater presence of people, gathering together in the park or just passing through.
It was decided for this newly developed area that we would proceed with a renovation design that focuses on both the idea of what a hotel should be and what the present and future hold for this city of tourism, Osaka.

We proposed a design that renewed the relationship of the hotel with the once closed-off park into something more open and positive, and that made it a place able to be enjoyed not just by the guests but also the people that gather in and pass through the park.
Our vision is for the hotel to blend together with the park and, similar to the park, have it be used more like a public space.
Accordingly, with this concept we imagined the main target of the hotel, the younger generations, would be able to stay there while also interacting more with the people of Osaka and in turn get to know the merits of this city.

The front of the hotel, or its face, was designed as a casual place crafted in the image of a café counter where coffee and baked goods are available.
The main opening features folding doors that fully open up to look out onto the park, and it was intended to be a place where people passing by and even locals to the area can stop by to take a rest.

We feel that the idea of what a hotel should be is changing.
Of course each hotel exists with its own unique role, but the conventionally specialized and private space of hotels is now evolving rapidly to be something more opened up onto the town and that allows for more freedom.
At the same time, the experience guests desire is changing. Rather than the traditional private experience, there’s a shift towards a more social experience that lays importance on enjoying the city and interacting with its people – something that wasn’t expected of hotels in the past.
3 O’clock is a project that has given us the opportunity to think about how this change in the concept of what a hotel is can be applied to design.
