Concept

業態の境界が曖昧な空間価値

日本のランドオペレーターである株式会社フリープラスが運営するホテルである。
場所は福岡県博多市の中心部。 同社は主に訪日観光客をターゲットに様々なサービスを提供しているが、 このホテルでは日本人客もターゲットとして計画された。

フロント機能とCafe&Bar Loungeを融合させたプログラムを導入し、
Barでお酒を注文するようにチェックインし、カジュアルに宿泊と博多の夜の街を楽しめるシーンを私たちはイメージした。 通常のホテルのフロントとその横に隣接されるラウンジの違いに別である関係とは異なり、双方の境界が曖昧で違いが混じり合った環境をいかにつくり、 新たなホテルのパブリックスペースのつくり方を模索した。
そうして作られた空間では、宿泊するという住行為と食行為が混じり合い、新たな価値・楽しみを提供できるのではないかと考える。

Cafe&Bar Loungeは”The Phoenix”と命名された。
そこで私たちは本物の炎がお客様を迎え入れ、 黒とグレーの炭化したような印象を持つマテリアルで全体を構成するようプランニングし、 Cafe&Bar Loungeのコンセプトをより強いものとして、フロントとの境界をさらに曖昧なものとした。

“The value in spaces where the borders of business types are blurred”

This is a hotel run by Japanese land operator Freeplus Inc.
It’s situated in the heart of Hakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Freeplus offers a variety of services mainly targeting tourists visiting Japan, however this hotel was designed with Japanese guests in mind.

We introduced a program that fuses the hotel front desk with a café and bar lounge. Our vision included scenes where guests check in as if they’re ordering a drink at a bar and comfortably enjoy their stay at the hotel and in the nocturnal city of Hakata. Breaking away from hotel design norms where the front desk and adjacent lounge are more separated, we explored how to form an environment where the barrier between the two is ambiguous, with their differences blended together, and how this public space can be in this new type of hotel.
The resulting space blends together living and dining – the two acts that constitute a stay at a hotel – and we think that what comes about is new value and a new enjoyableness.

The café and bar lounge has been christened “The Phoenix”.
We’ve planned the layout with an authentic fireplace that greets guests on arrival and the interior features a black and grey material used throughout that gives off a charcoal-like impression. By emphasizing the concept of the café and bar lounge, we’ve blurred the border between it and the front desk even more.
