- 異なる時間を融合し、新たな価値を生む -

築45年の木造２階建ての住宅を宿泊施設へと再生するプロジェクトである。
計画地は大阪市西成区・花園町駅から徒歩数分の場所であり、活気ある商店と人々の生活が近い賑わいのあるエリアである。

既存建築は建設当時の大工により丁寧に軸組が組まれており、解体を進める中で現代では使用されることが少なくなった無垢の柱や梁が姿を現した。
私たちはこの軸組を新たな空間の構造体とすると同時に、露出させデザインに取り込むこととした。
荒く力強い当時の軸組が際立つよう新たな要素はミニマムで最小限とし、異なる時間軸の魅力が混在する場を提案している。

ファサードは商店が連なる通りの１画に位置しており、周辺には看板などの情報が溢れている。
私たちは、情報を重ねてファサードをつくるのではなく、限りなく情報を削ぎ落とすことでこの街並みのアイコンにならないかと考えデザインをした。
文字・色・ピクトグラム、沢山の情報が目に入ってくる中で、真っ白に情報が削ぎ落とされたこの建築は、逆説的に強いアピール力を放ち、宿泊客にとってわかりやすいアイコンとなる。

今まで通りこの次の時代もこの街と共にあり続けるために、
街にとっての新しいアイコンのあり方と当時の建築物の良さを引き出し新たな価値創造をすることができたプロジェクトである。

– Fusing Different Times to Create New Value –

This project involves the renovation of a 45-year-old two-story wooden house into an accommodation facility.
The site is located a few minutes’ walk from Hanazonocho Station in Nishinari Ward, Osaka, an area characterized by a lively neighborhood where local commerce and daily life coexist.
The existing structure had been carefully assembled by the carpenters at the time of its construction. As demolition progressed, solid wood columns and beams—materials that are rarely used in contemporary construction—were revealed.
We decided to use this traditional timber frame as the structural backbone of the new space while also exposing it as a key design element. To highlight the rough yet powerful character of the original structure, newly introduced elements were kept minimal and restrained. The result is a space where the appeal of different time periods coexists.
The façade faces a street lined with small shops and is surrounded by an abundance of visual information such as signage. Rather than layering more information onto the façade, we designed it by removing as much information as possible, questioning whether such reduction could allow it to become an icon within the streetscape. Amid a landscape filled with letters, colors, and pictograms, this building—stripped down to pure white—paradoxically stands out with a strong visual presence, becoming a clear and recognizable landmark for guests.
In order for the building to continue existing alongside the town into the next era, just as it has in the past, this project proposes a new type of urban icon while revealing the inherent qualities of the original architecture, creating new value through the fusion of different times.
