「モビリティの速度に対応する即時的アイコンとしての存在」
本プロジェクトは、大阪府豊中市の交差点に面する小規模なテナントビルの計画である。
敷地は2つの駅の中間に位置し、歩行者の往来は少ないものの、車やバスの交通量が非常に多い。
特に朝夕のラッシュ時には車列が途切れない。このような立地条件において、車上の人々がわずか数秒の間に建築およびテナント情報を直感的に認識できるデザインが求められた。
計画では2階建ての構成を採り、敷地形状に素直に沿わせた1階の上に、軸をずらして単純な長方形の2階ボリュームを積層させた。この意図的なズレによって2階には心地よいテラス空間が生まれ、1階へ大きく片持ちで張り出したボリュームはアプローチに影を落とすと同時に、交差点の4方向からの視線と対峙するように中空へ浮遊する。
外壁には1階にセメント板、2階にミントグリーンの折板を採用。マテリアルの明確なコントラストによって階ごとの構成を際立たせた。
課題に対して即物的な構成で答えた本建築は、単なる看板の枠を超えた都市のアイコンとして機能する。あらゆるアプローチ方向に対して端的に情報を提示し、街の新たな風景として存在感を示し続ける。
「An instantaneous urban icon responding to the velocity of mobility.」
This project is a design for a small tenant building situated at an intersection in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture.
Located midway between two train/subway stations, the site has relatively low pedestrian traffic but a heavy flow of cars and buses, which becomes particularly congested during morning and evening rush hours. Given these site conditions, the design was required to allow people traveling in vehicles to intuitively absorb information about the building and its tenants in just a few seconds.
The building is planned as a two-story structure. A simple rectangular volume is stacked on top of the first floor—which faithfully follows the site shape—with a deliberate offset. This intentional shift creates a pleasant terrace space on the second floor, while the volume heavily cantilevering over the ground level provides shade for the approach and floats in midair to engage with views from all four directions of the intersection.
For the exterior finish, cement boards were used on the first floor, and mint-green folded metal plates were applied to the second floor. This vivid material contrast highlights the distinct two-tiered composition.
By responding directly to the given challenges with a clear composition, this architecture functions as an urban icon that goes beyond a mere tenant signboard. It delivers information concisely from any direction of approach, maintaining a strong presence as a new landmark in the city.
